Warm Up/Cool Down
The warm up and cool down portion before and after your exercise is important. The purpose of the warm up is to heat your muscles so that they are not cold when you perform an exercise. It reduces the tension within your muscles so they're more loose, reducing the risks of injury. Stretching after the warm up can also help improve your range of motion and flexibility as well as circulation of blood to different parts of
the body.
Your warm up should be anywhere between 8-10 minutes of
cardiovascular activities whether it's running or various movements, the purpose
is to heat yourself up. Make sure you're not pushing yourself so that you're
tired when you begin to exercise. Once you've warmed up, you should stretch each
large muscle group, holding a stretching position for 10-15 seconds.
Similar to the warm up, the cool down is to relax the muscles after your
exercise and help return them to a normal state. Again, stretch out the major
muscle groups by holding a stretching position for 10-15 seconds.
